“What is the most important thing to learn about the Bible?” I suppose folks might give differing answers to that question. Without debating those answers, please allow me to say that I think the best answer relates to truth. The Bible is a book of truth, and truth must be respected, believed and followed.
If I had but one verse to teach, it might be . Why? Because only the truth can free us from sin.
God’s truth is like truth in math or science. It is narrow and rigid. In math, 2+2=4. You can’t make it to be whatever you want. It is 4. Always 4. Never something else. Rigid. Narrow. That’s just the nature of truth itself. Truth is objective, not subjective. Something is not true-or untrue-because of how you feel about it.
Here are ten facts everyone needs to know about truth:
1. Truth is eternal. It has been in existence longer than you and I. It will still be here when we are gone.
2. Truth is independent. It is not dependent on our believing it for its existence. Rather, we are dependent on it for our well-being.
3. Truth is powerful. It can shake our entire outlook on life.
4. Truth is threatening. It may challenge the answers we presently give to life.
5. Truth is demanding. It can force us to make decisions we would rather not make. It puts demands on us we would rather not have.
6. Truth can be dangerous. Believing it can subject us to ridicule and persecution.
7. Truth is life-changing. For the good or bad. Once truth confronts us, we will never be the same. We may be better or worse, but we will not be the same.
8. Truth always comes as our friend. It never intends to be our enemy. It wants to be our ally, not our opponent. That’s why we must be on the side of truth.
9. Truth obligates us. We are obligated to seek it, love it, and obey it.
10. Truth is knowable. We can understand it (). Thus, we are obligated to search for, and find truth.
THE FINAL WORD
A final thought from … “Buy the truth, and sell it not.”
Pay any price to have it. Surrender it at no price.
Has truth made you free? Jesus came to free you ().
Blessings to you, my truth-loving friends,
