That is from . It continues with “We will rejoice and be glad in it.”
This text has been used to speak of how God has blessed us with another day of life and how we should use it for good. We should rejoice because it is from God.
To begin your morning with a positive and uplifting affirmation like that is a good thing. We should indeed count every day as a blessing from our great God. We should find happiness and joy in that day because we know God loves us and cares for us. We should use the day for God’s glory.
To start a day like that is much better than being an old grump who is mad at his wife, kids, the world and even God! Some folks just have a sour disposition; they don’t like anybody or anything.
While there might be some value in using as a positive affirmation, have you ever wondered if there is maybe a deeper meaning to that text? Can I suggest to you that there is something far greater in the meaning of that psalm?
If you are interested in learning more, read on. See more about the context.
THE FINAL WORD
“The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. This was the LORD’S doing; It is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it” (
).
This psalm was likely written by King David. It is a psalm of thanksgiving, triumph and praise. David had enemies who were not willing to accept His kingship over Israel. But God had brought him to the day of victory; it was a day of rejoicing.
Yet, as is so often the case in the prophetic psalms, the writer looks forward to a greater time and a greater fulfillment. The text leading up to is prophetic of Christ. He is the stone who would be rejected by the builders. This text is referred to at least six times in the New Testament (example: ).
“The day the Lord has made” refers to the time of the exaltation of Christ as the chief cornerstone. Correctly understood, it is a reference to the gospel age–a time in which we rejoice and express our gladness to our God!
While it is good to start your day off with a positive affirmation, with how much more joy should our whole lives be lived under the wonderful reign of Christ!
Rejoice! Be Glad!
Blessings to you my dear friends,
