THE BENEFITS OF COMING TOGETHER

[Note: The following short article was written by my good friend, my brother, my fellow preacher, Gary Scott. It was sent to me a few days ago. I think it is worth sharing with you.]

At eighty-four years of age, and after two strokes, I am no longer able to attend every worship service of the congregation. That disappoints me a lot, because I get so much out of my attendance at the services. Not just the edification from each act of worship, but also the benefits from the contact with each brother and sister before and after each service. Its effect upon me, I suppose, is somewhat like that upon Paul when Titus returned to him after their separation (). It was a great comfort to Paul when he was able to see Titus.
I realize it is not that way with everybody. In fact, some feel it is a burden to attend and so they choose not to attend. You may say, “Do I have to?” in spite of what and teach. Jesus said “This do in remembrance of me.” I suggest that you re-evaluate your attitude if you think attending worship is a burden.
God had a reason for telling us to not forsake assembling. We need each one to be strong in the Lord.

THE FINAL WORD
Is there anything particularly unique or unusually special about brother Scott’s short article? Not at all. It is the same message of faithfulness in worship and love for God that Gary has preached for more than 60 years.
The thing I would like most for you to see in what Gary writes is the value that he sees in his relationships with those of “like precious faith” (). Brother Scott noted the benefits he receives from contact with each brother and sister before and after each service. He sees that as a blessing and comfort to himself. I think Gary has found something that is missing from the lives of so many Christians.
He sees value in coming together with those he loves and with those who love God. Do you see value in that? The older I grow the more I am able to cherish that same thing. I long to be with my brethren. I long to see them. I am comforted by them. I am more able to face the world because of them.
As you begin the New Year, why not resolve that this is going to be your best year ever in serving God? Serving God and building relationships with your brothers and sisters in Jesus? It’s an idea whose time has come!
Blessings to you, my faithful friends,
Max
