There is a powerful lesson to take from last night’s Super Bowl Fifty-One. It is a message everyone needs at one time or another in life. Maybe you need it today!
The Patriots victory over the Falcons is one that is still hard to believe even eight hours later (at 5:00 a.m. Monday morning).
Stunned. Shocking. Unbelievable. Amazing. Fantastic. Incredible. Those are just some of the words used in the post-game shows last night.
Tom Brady’s team was down 28-3 in the third quarter. That’s a 25-point deficit. Teams just don’t come back from something like that. There have been 4 times when teams have come back from a 10-point deficit to win the Super Bowl. But not 25 points. Not ever. “This game is a blowout.” How many folks said that?
But then it turned around. In a way no other Super Bowl ever has. The last two touchdowns in regulation time were each followed with a two-point conversion. Improbable. Almost impossible. But it happened.
And then, overtime. Tom Brady marched the Patriots down the field for the winning touchdown. Final score 34-28. That’s 31 unanswered points. Shocker.
But what is the lesson to be learned?

THE FINAL WORD

The powerful message from the game is about never quitting–never giving up.
You have to wonder if there were some people who might have turned the game off in the third quarter when the Falcons scored their fourth touchdown, making the score 28-3. It looked hopeless.
But it wasn’t hopeless. If you had changed channels at that point, you would have missed the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history. The greatest game.
Do things look bleak for you? Is it the third quarter and you are way behind? Does your situation in life look hopeless?
I don’t know how many people actually read this blog. It is sent out to hundreds via email; it is posted on Facebook; it is available at dowlenroad.com. Thousands have access to it. I don’t know how many read it, but I do know that among the readers there are bound to be some who are on the verge of giving up.
Life can be discouraging. Troubles and heartaches can overwhelm us. Some people have a life that is about disappointment–one setback after another.
But, no matter how disappointing life can be, we don’t give up. We don’t quit. In the apostle wrote, “I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Paul had disappointments and discouragements, but he “pressed on.” That’s what we do.
We don’t give up. We don’t quit. We don’t give up on life. We don’t give up on our marriages. We don’t give up on God. There is always hope.
We don’t quit. Not ever.
Press on, my dear friends,
