“Why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say unto you?” (Luke 6:42).
I am addressing these remarks to those people that say you don’t have to do anything to be saved, Christ has done it all; or to those who single out various things that they say or believe are “nonessential” such as baptism.
When the Lord told the apostles to make disciples, He commanded “baptizing them…teaching them to observe all things whatsoever l have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20).
Even among our brethren, there are some, who are still babes, thinking they don’t have to assemble with the saints when they worship. They think this, even though the Lord’s word says, “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope that it wavers not; for he is faithful that promised: and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and good works; not forsaking our own assembling together…” (Hebrews 10:23-25).
Or, they don’t take the Lord’s Supper each time the first day of the week comes around. “And upon the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread…” (Acts 20:7). They neglect this, even though we are told by the Lord Jesus, “This is my body, which is for you; this do in remembrance of me…for as often as ye eat the bread, and drink the cup, ye proclaim the Lord’s death till he come” (1 Corinthians 11:23-26).
How can someone sincerely claim the Lord Jesus Christ as their “personal Savior,” but not be submissive to him as Lord, and fail to do what he has commanded?
