Have you done your post-holiday cleanup yet? You know what I mean. I am talking about the bits of wrapping paper left here and there. Clean the kitchen after turkey, ham and black-eyed peas. Decorations all put away. Returns taken back to Walmart. Find a place to store the over-sized half-eaten ceramic apple you got from aunt Jane. (Believe it or not, I actually got one of those this year. It is about the size of a soccer ball. It is not a pretty thing to behold.)
In any case, have you got everything back to normal?
The weeks following Christmas and New Year’s are not so festive for most folks. For some, there is a post-holiday letdown. The expectations going in were high. The reality coming out can be a disappointment. The holiday spirit was nice. But it has come and gone.
Now that the holidays are over, it is important to remember someone that you may have forgotten in the midst of all the hustle and bustle. It is someone who should never be forgotten.
The Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
He was there before the holidays. He was there while all the festivities were going on. He is there now. He is constant. Faithful. Enduring. Unchanging. Steadfast.
It’s just that we get so busy thinking about so many other things and so many other people, that we tend to forget the one who is always there.
The days of January can be dark. But the light of Jesus shines as brightly as ever. The warm glow of the family hearth may have died out, but the glory and splendor of the Christ is still bright and warm.
We have reason for joy today, tomorrow and everyday.
A FINAL WORD
Here are some Scriptures that remind us of the constancy of our God and Savior.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).
“Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you'”
(Hebrews 13:5).
“I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).
“I am the Lord. I do not change” (Malachi 3:6).
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning” (James 1:17).
“You, LORD, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You remain; And they will all grow old like a garment; Like a cloak You will fold them up, And they will be changed. But You are the same, And Your years will not fail” (Hebrews 1:10-12).
Our God is with us and for us. His heart is for you and your well-being. There are plenty of things in this world that should be doubted. But not our God. Through all that you face, God is on your side. He gives grace and mercy to those who follow Him. Hang in there. With the help of the Lord, we are going to make it!
Blessings to you,
