Last Monday in this spot I wrote about one of the prophetic names given to Jesus. The prophet Isaiah identified Him as the “Prince of Peace” ().
Jesus, the Prince of Peace, has been able to accomplish something no other ruler has ever achieved. He established a kingdom of peace. He brings peace to those who follow Him.
Another powerful and significant term used in Isaiah to describe Jesus is found in .
“Behold! My Servant whom I uphold, My Elect One in whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles.
This is one of the many prophecies Isaiah spoke concerning the coming of the Messiah. The prophet foretold the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus 700 years before He was born.
The prophecy in tells us something of the ministry of Jesus. He is a Servant. He was born to serve. He served mankind. He served God’s purposes.
speaks of His coming into the world in this way:
“…taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.”
He served God’s purposes by being a bondservant, humbling Himself and being obedient to God. He was obedient even to the point of dying on the cross.
As a result of His obedience, God has highly exalted Him. In fact, Jesus has been given the highest position ever afforded to anyone who has ever walked the earth. God says that every knee should bow to Him. Every tongue should acknowledge that He is indeed the Lord of heaven and earth! ()
Because He, the Son of God, was a Servant!
THE FINAL WORD
Servanthood. That’s what Jesus demonstrated. That’s what God wants to see in us. We live in a time when men focus more and more on self. On their own will. Even on their own greatness.
But, if you really want to be great, you need to listen to Jesus in .
“…whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all.”
The kingdom of Christ is very different than the kingdoms of men. In the kingdoms of men the great ones are those who have the authority and power, who find themselves on the royal throne.
But in the kingdom of Christ, the greatest is the one who serves. Jesus Himself is the example ().
Be a servant. Serve God. Serve people.
May the Blessings of Servanthood be upon you today, my dear friends.
