A Poor Little Boy

This past Friday night after leaving a wedding Nikki, Josh, and I went to Chick Fil-A. Joshua will actually eat the chicken there. He’s such a picky eater, but he really loves his Chick Fil-A. Anyway, while we were eating, there was a young boy with his father. It was near closing time and there were only a few people left in the restaurant.

I couldn’t help but feel sorry for this boy. Here’s why. His father was on HIS CELL PHONE the entire time they were sitting there. It could have been that maybe they had talked a little bit before we got there, but I doubt it. The poor little boy was looking around while his father just stared at his cell phone. I wish I would have invited the young boy to our table, so he could have had some interaction with someone.

After finishing their meals, the young boy took their tray and emptied it in the garbage. The father looked up at him and said, “You ready to go?” And then they walked out and left.

For some reason this interaction stuck with me. I felt bad for the young boy. As a father, I know that life can become tiresome. Maybe the dad had a long day. But he had his son’s attention and it just seemed like he missed an opportunity to make a connection with his son. I know that as children get older, those opportunities may become more rare. Maybe the father and son had a good talk while they drove home in the car.

I do know this. Fathers, we must make the most of our time with our children. We need to teach them God’s word, . We need to capitalize every opportunity we get, . If not NOW, then WHEN?

Our children need our time. Our children need our attention. Our children need our HEARTS! Let’s be sure that we give it them.

THE FINAL WORD

Let’s be wise with our time. Turn off your cell phone for a few minutes when you get home today and sit down with your children and give them the attention they deserve.

Blessings to you my dear friends.
