A LETTER TO SELF

Have you ever written a letter to yourself? A letter that expresses your feelings, desires and hopes? I have never done that, but others have. Below is just such a letter. It is from a young girl who went to Dry Creek Summer Camp last year. I don’t know why she wrote the letter. I am printing it here using the anonymous word “Self,” rather than the girl’s name. Maybe you will find it to be of value.
Dear Self,
How are you? Take a second, think, where are you spiritually? Are you in the same place you were before camp, or are you where you wanted yourself to be during camp? Have you dared to be like Daniel? A man who was a servant, consistent, different, faithful, and courageous? Are you serving God to your fullest potential? I hope so. How is your attitude towards others – is it the same or do you treat them as if you were talking to Jesus? Are you actively inviting people to church services? Their souls were created by the hands of God, just like yours was. Are you doing just enough right now, or are you performing to the best of your abilities? God has blessed you immensely, so you must serve and take action! We are not promised forever. On the last day, we want to hear, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” Are you humbling yourself before others, putting others’ needs before yours, including the Lord’s?
I have set goals for you, in hopes that you have completed or are actively working on: 1) Having a servant’s heart. 2) Doing more for your church. 3) Inviting people to church or having Bible studies with them. 4) Accepting people into your life that will help your spiritual life.
Self, you must be courageous for God. Remember at camp looking out at all the stars with your cabin girls? Looking up into the night sky, it seemed that you could and would do anything for Christ. Remember, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” . No one can take your love for Christ and your Lord away from you. The most important relationship you will ever have in your life is your relationship with God. Stay Faithful Through The Fire! God is always there to listen to you.
“In Christ alone my hope is found, He is my light, my strength, my song.”
I will pray for your success, that you will shine the light that God has given you.
Love,
Self

THE FINAL WORD

Some folks might think such a letter is a little silly or childish. But I think it is spiritual; I tend to look at it in the light of the first line in .
“Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith.”
I think the letter serves the purpose of self-examination of which Paul spoke.
If you were to write yourself a letter, evaluating yourself, what would it say?
Blessings to you my dear friends,
–Max
